Must-See Viewpoints on the Annapurna Circuit

Why Viewpoints Matter for Trekkers

In this post, I will guide you through the nine viewpoints not to miss so that you don’t overlook any of the most beautiful scenery on the Annapurna Circuit.

Large and In-Charge: The Panoramic Beauty of Pisang Town.

Upper and Lower Pisang village, around 3300 meters, is another great first date with the great mountains to click away! The upper Pisang especially has an awesome view. At 7,037m, Annapurna II (on which the village’s monastery is located) stares down at you; this ominous pyramid (almost entirely covered with snow and powerful heli skiing conditions) confronts you when you look up. This is quite a contrast from the lush, forested mountaineering ascent and starts to give way as one penetrates less verdant high altitudes to first expose barren rock, segmented desert-style terrain, and it makes for some awesome views as well as opportunities for early morning photography as the light begins reaching the peak.

Wide Perspective of Ghyaru and Ngawal

When you hike beyond Pisang, take the high trail detour through the villages of Ghyaru and Ngawal. This is probably the most-admired stretch of highway with superior views, taking the low road. Perched on a cliff, Ghyaru offers expansive views of the Marsyangdi Valley down below with imposing Annapurna II, Annapurna I, V, and Gangapurna hovering in the background. And as you make your way to Ngawal, the views just get better – offering a dwarfing perspective on these massive walls of peaks that feel so much closer than from the main trekking trail, providing more depth and scale for those snaps of the Himalayas.

The Ice Lake (Kicho Tal) Acclimatization Bonus

In Manang (3,540m), a rest day often means hiking to Ice Lake at 4,600m. The side-trip challenges you but also acclimatizes your body for the high passes, and the views make every step worthwhile. From the top, you enjoy one of the most panoramic 360-degree vistas, with Annapurna II, I, and IV along with Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, and Chulu East surrounding you. The mountain views are vast and completely unhindered by all the senses, overwhelmed by altitude.

The Largest: Tilicho Lake is the Highest Lake on Earth (For a Detour)

With time and energy, trek to Tilicho Lake, a jewel of Annapurna. It is, however, one of the highest lakes on earth at 4,919 meters above sea level. Turquoise Tilicho Lake rests below Tilicho Peak, Nilgiri, and glaciers. The sheer scale and rugged beauty of this high-alpine basin is one of a kind on the circuit. It even has a memorable photo and a sense that you’re really out there in the wild.

The final push up to Thorong La Pass

The highlight of Annapurna Circuit Trek– and indeed the high point of the trek – is undoubtedly Thorong La, a whopping 5,416 metres in the clouds. Reaching the top already feels like a victory, where a cairn draped with thousands of flapping prayer flags greets you.  At this point, you witness breathtaking, almost 360-degree views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges sprawling in front of you. Manang to Mustang, barren peaks unfold — a moment where years of climbing distill into pure awe.   Manang to Mustang, barren peaks unfold — a moment where years of climbing distill into pure awe.

Muktinath The Stark Muktinath & the Kali Gandaki Gorge

Beyond the pass, descend into Mustang with Tibetan flair and Muktinath ahead. The surrounding hills, on and around Muktinath… The views are stunning to say the least. The Kali Gandaki Valley sprawls between Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. The grandeur of the deepest gorge in the world. Dhaulagiri I and Nilgiri rise stark against the barren landscape.

The Apples and Mountains Of Marapha’s Apple Orchards And Mountain Framing

The charming Marpha village (hiking through here offers a taste of its renowned apple brandy production) and culture make for pleasant scenery. Looming above you on its pristine flagstone streets, the looming summits of Dhaulagiri and Tukuche Peak seem to swallow the town whole. Tibetan-style flat roof architecture lends itself to a beautiful feature in the detail in the frame, which you can also use for juxtaposition and take shots with human Himalayan life getting mixed up around Travel.

Take a side trip: Classic Sunrise (Poon Hill). You’re really here already, and walking up the hill in search of a view is free.

A short detour to Poon Hill (3,210m) reveals Nepal’s iconic golden sunrise over Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre. The 360-degree view is the image of a Himalayan sunrise -It’s a pretty good way to end your whole adventure.

Gurung Village And Tradition

A traditional Gurung village, Ghandruk, is often the final destination for trekkers before taking buses back to Pokhara. It presents a big crest descending to the south, full of Annapurna South, Hiunchul, and Machhapuchhre. The setting invites quiet meditation on the mountains and their often dramatic backdrop of old stone homes and terraced fields. A serene end with the Annapurna Range behind village life.

Final Notes Regarding Annapurna Circuit Viewpoints

The Annapurna Circuit Trekking truly is the trip that keeps on giving – every corner you turn, there’s a new jaw-dropping view. You find the best panorama as the journey’s constantly evolving terrain takes you from subtropical lowlands to desiccated high-alpine passes. Pisang, Marpha, Poon Hill, Thorong La, and Tilicho Lake complete the Annapurna Circuit’s iconic views. Stay patient with the weather and keep looking up — the Himalayas never stop giving.
